Anzac Day - Gospel Implications

ANZAC Day gives Aussies much to reflect on. The centrality of the day in the Australian calendar and psyche is gaining momentum. As Christian communicators and reflective missiological practitioners what can we take from the imagery and the values of the day to use in our presentations and messages, especially within our congregations. Amongst the many themes, I believe the concept of sacrifice is a vital one to ulitise. Christ is the ultimate example of sacrifice as reflected in Paul's relfection in Philippians 2 (verses 5 to 11). Sacrifice, especially for others, as demonstrated in Christ's actions and in the troops at Gallipoli, is not culturally acceptable these days due to the emphasis on individual self interest and comfort. Do you agree? What other elements of ANZAC Day could be utilised?
